Drinking straw necklace / snake

Drinking straw necklace snake

Drinking straw necklace snake

It has been one of those really wet days, and I have finally got round to looking through some old photographs of some things that Ted and I made together a few months ago. Here is Ted’s necklace, or rather his bead snake, which it soon became known as. He made it all himself – he even made the beads and was very proud of it.  This necklace snake is the result of one of a whole range of activities that Ted and I did a few months back to help strengthen his fine motor skills, Continue reading

Milk bottle elephant

Here is Ted’s milk bottle Elmer the Elephant. We first made one of these together a year or two ago at our village toddler group, and it was our friend Hannah D who introduced us to this craft. I still can’t believe how a plastic milk bottle can be transformed into such a cute elephant.  Continue reading

We had a busy summer and had great fun making things over the holidays. The start of school seemed to come round so quickly it has taken me until now to start sharing on-line what we made – so here is the first. Ted’s toggle ring

It was a really proud moment last week when Ted bounced into our kitchen and showed me this ring he had made all by himself. He was brimming with pride that he had come up with the idea on his own, found what he needed to make it and then made it on his own. We have got a craft box of bits and bobs, and he had discovered some wooden toggles and pipe cleaners. Continue reading

Butterfly garden cane topper - bird scarer

Butterfly garden cane topper – bird scarer

We have been so excited to grow our own strawberries this year, but it has been a bit of a race to get there before the slugs do. When the birds also started eating them and getting to the strawberries before we did, Ted and I thought enough was enough and decided to take action. Continue reading

Funny face money box

Sticking on mouth

Sticking on mouth

We had just finished a tube of Pringles, and as we often do, kept the packaging thinking we could make something with it – and here it is, a funny face money box. The shape and having an easy to open lid top seemed to make it ideal for a money box – the coins make a great sounds as they drop through the slot into the tube and it is easy for little hands to take off the lid.  Continue reading

Fish tank puppet show

Fish tank puppet show

In our house we all love the film ‘Finding Nemo’ and would really like to have some fish of our own so at the weekend went to the local aquatics centre to look at the tropical fish. T loved the clown fish that look like Nemo and his dad. We didn’t get any fish, but when we got home decided we would make our own fish tank, one where we could move the fish around, almost like puppets. Continue reading
