Pop up Christmas tree card

Pop up Christmas tree card

Pop up Christmas tree card

In all of our excitement about Christmas, Ted and I have already secretly started to make pop up Christmas cards, and have tried this very simple version of a pop up Christmas tree card. It looks really effective and can be decorated in so many different ways – Ted used stick on stars and spots as baubles, but it would look wonderful with glue and glitter, ribbon, the list is endless. Pirate hat, eye patch and sword

Pirate hat, eye patch and sword

There was lots of Ahhhhhh in our house this morning, as Ted dressed in his pirate outfit ready for Pirate Day in his class at school today. Ted has been excited all over half term about Pirate Day and we spent part of yesterday afternoon making a pirate hat, eye patch and sword. He went off to school this morning looking the part, and totally thrilled with his outfit. Ted took a keen interest in designing these with me, and looked through some pictures to choose the sort of hat and sword he would have, and sketched some drawings to show me his ideas. Chinese Dragon

Ted and his Chinese Dragon

Ted and his Chinese Dragon

Here is Ted’s very own Chinese dragon that he made last week to celebrate Chinese New Year. He had great fun making the dragons, and even more fun dancing them around the house. We added fluffy feathers for a bit of drama and colour and of course googly eyes. To make the body of the dragons we used cake cases threaded onto a pipe cleaner, which meant the dragons moved around in a similar way to the much much larger ones we had looked at on the computer.  Continue reading

Paper plate Christmas Wreath

Paper plate Christmas wreath

Paper plate Christmas wreath

We have been feeling in the mood for Christmas in our house, so much so that Ted and I couldn’t resist making our very own paper plate Christmas Wreath, inspired by some we had seen on other sites. A great idea for making something for Christmas with little ones. It was such fun to make, and Ted couldn’t believe how realistic it looked when finished and can’t wait to hang it on one our doors inside our house. Continue reading

Halloween sun catcher

Halloween sun catcher

Here is Ted’s Halloween sun catcher, which he made to hang in our window for Halloween. He was keen to have lots of bats flying in the sky, which I cut out for him to stick on. I love tissue paper and we got all of our colourful paper tissue out, which he sifted through and was very thoughtful about choosing different shades of blue for the sky. Continue reading

Autumn leaf threading

Threading round autumn leaves

Threading round autumn leaves

Here is Ted threading round autumn leaves over half term. The week before half term, he had returned home from school proudly clutching geometric shapes with holes round them, that he had threaded with large shoe laces. He had threaded them in class to help develop fine motor skills and also to strengthen the tripod pencil grip. Continue reading

Spot picture – inspired by Damien Hirst

Spot picture

Spot picture

Here is Ted’s Spot Picture, inspired by the Spot Paintings by Damien Hirst. This was great fun to do but also started quite an in depth chat about art made by real artists. Ted and I were looking at paintings in art books and he was fascinated by pictures of Damien Hirst’s Spot paintings and couldn’t believe that someone had actually painted spots. He wanted to have a go himself. Continue reading

Colour swatch whale collage

Colour swatch whale

Colour swatch whale

We had a busy summer and had great fun making things over the holidays. The start of school seemed to come round so quickly it has taken me until now to start sharing on-line what we made – so here is the first. This whale was inspired by the whale in the book ‘The Shark in the Dark’ by Peter Bentley with wonderful illustrations by Ben Cort. Continue reading

Gifts for teachers

Butterfly clothes peg paper clip

Butterfly clothes peg paper clip

I can’t believe how quickly the summer holidays are flying by, and that in just a week Ted will be starting school. While I was looking through some photos I found these of some gifts that Ted made at the end of the summer term for his pre school teachers. Continue reading

Envelope holiday journal

Travel journal

Travel journal

Last month just before we went on holiday Ted made this simple envelope holiday journal to keep things he had collected. My parents  gave us these wonderful orange envelopes – perfect to make an envelope book. It was simple to make, but quite effective and perfect for sticking in things that Ted had collected, or putting smaller items into the envelope parts of the book. Continue reading
