Clothes peg reindeer

Well, it might be weeks until Christmas, but in our house, we have already been thinking lots about it  – Christine and I are running some Christmas Craft workshops over the next few weeks, which we are very very excited about. Plus – Ted has already started asking how many sleeps it is until Christmas, so already in our house we are rather in the mood for Christmas. I made this little clothes peg reindeer yesterday, and Ted loved it so much he thought I must include it in the workshop next week. Here is how to make your own. Continue reading

Ladybird

Here is Ted’s Ladybird picture made with petals, pebbles and sticks that he made during a Mini-beast adventure workshop at the start of the summer holidays at the wonderful Five a Day Market Garden, close to us. This was one of a number of really fun activities that the wonderful workshop leader Becca, did with the group. Check out the great things that Five a Day do at www.fiveaday.org.uk

Dinosaur peg routine chart

Dino peg chore chart

Dino peg chore chart

With the Summer holidays having started, I realised I needed to introduce something to help us maintain some semblance of routine to help us keep an even keel over the weeks of holiday to come. With all the fun and variety that come with summer holidays, it is all too easy to let routine and order fly out of the window, so, to the rescue Dinosaur peg chore chart. It currently only focuses on the morning route, which I find with us, if we get the morning right, the rest of the day is more likely to go smoothly. Continue reading

Owl Birthday Cake

Owl cake

Owl cake

Ted asked for an owl cake for his fifth birthday party, and here it is, or rather here they are. I use an egg free recipe, in the past sometimes it hasn’t risen really well so I made two this time, intending to sandwich one on top of the other. However, both rose really well so rather than waste one, decided to make two so there is big owl and little owl. Continue reading

Clothes Peg Spring Lambs

Spring Lambs

Spring Lambs

With the weather turning milder, and the bulbs showing their colours, we have been feeling all Spring like in our house. I am running a children’s craft workshop in a few weeks with Christine, a great friend of mine, and we are going to be making Spring Lambs. I wanted to make some beforehand, to show in the workshop and had Ted, an enthusiastic little helper. Continue reading

Shell creatures

I was looking through our photos and came across these shell creatures that Ted had made last summer, and thought they were so cute that I just had to share them. I remember him having had a really fun afternoon making these creatures from our collection of shells. They lived all around the house for quite a number of weeks. Continue reading

Chinese Dragon

Ted and his Chinese Dragon

Ted and his Chinese Dragon

Here is Ted’s very own Chinese dragon that he made last week to celebrate Chinese New Year. He had great fun making the dragons, and even more fun dancing them around the house. We added fluffy feathers for a bit of drama and colour and of course googly eyes. To make the body of the dragons we used cake cases threaded onto a pipe cleaner, which meant the dragons moved around in a similar way to the much much larger ones we had looked at on the computer.  Continue reading

Milk bottle elephant

Here is Ted’s milk bottle Elmer the Elephant. We first made one of these together a year or two ago at our village toddler group, and it was our friend Hannah D who introduced us to this craft. I still can’t believe how a plastic milk bottle can be transformed into such a cute elephant.  Continue reading

Autumn craft ideas

Autumn leaf bugs from http://www.petitandsmall.com

Autumn is here, and with it the wonderful golden colours as the trees change colour and start to drop their leaves. Walks are exciting, the ground carpeted with golden leaves, the crunch of leaves underfoot and the chance to find and bring home treasure –  leaves, conkers, acorn shells…. We always go out with a bag and seem to come home laden with our collection. Ted and I have been thinking about things to make, and have found lots of really inspiring Autumn craft ideas for children to do – these are eleven of our favourites, we hope you love them as much as we do. We really can’t wait to get making some of these ourselves.   Continue reading
