We have been away for half term, and I took a small bag of handy and simple craft supplies with us in case of rainy days to provide something fun to make inside- luckily the weather was great most of the time, but these paper plate snakes were some of the things we made whilst away. We had made some of these ages ago, and thought they were perfect to make on holiday because they need very little in the way of materials.

It is a great fun, and quick activity to do with little ones and good for helping to develop confidence in their drawing skills, giving them a structure within which to design. Ted decorated a couple himself, and then drew the spiral and decorated his own. It looked such fun I couldn’t resist making one myself.

Materials

  • Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Coloured paper for tongue
  • Felt tipped pens
  • Glue or cello-tape

How to make your own

  1. Draw a spiral onto the plate – starting with the middle for the head and working outwards for the tail
  2. Decorate the plate
  3. Cut out
  4. Cut out and add on tongue
