Last month just before we went on holiday Ted made this simple envelope holiday journal to keep things he had collected. My parents  gave us these wonderful orange envelopes – perfect to make an envelope book. It was simple to make, but quite effective and perfect for sticking in things that Ted had collected, or putting smaller items into the envelope parts of the book. We made it just before going on holiday, Ted loved punching the holes in the envelope and he got good at threading the string through the holes, which was tricky at first for his little fingers. Having made the book, once we were on holiday Ted was like a little magpie collecting anything he found interesting to stick in or collect in the envelopes when we got back to our holiday cottage. It is always useful to have something to occupy little ones on holiday when you are inside, so this was a great activity  back at base. Once filled up, Ted can just add more envelopes to make the book larger when we go away again. He has made a lovely memory book of his holiday to Cornwall, to treasure and look at again to remind him of what he did. He also took it with him when we visited family in the Peak District.

Materials

  • Long envelopes
  • Hole punch
  • Thread, string or ribbon

How we made it

  1. Fold envelopes in half
  2. Punch holes in fold of envelope
  3. Put all of the folded envelopes together on top of each other, and thread string or ribbon through holes and secure with a knot or bow
  4. Your envelope book is now ready for you to stick in things collected from holiday, like leaflets, postcards, tickets etc and put smaller finds into the envelope part of the book
